My Distractions and Removing Distractions

I don’t run iBuildMVPs.com and I have neglected it a lot over the past two years.  In short, I got comfortable.  This started as planning a marriage, and enjoying the honeymoon phase.  I’ve been married for over 6 months and now its time to get back to the grind.

Distractions are the little things that you don’t think much of, but they eventually consume your life.  That hour of network tv you watch each night.  That 15 minutes browsing on Facebook.  The twenty minutes you spend scrolling up and down Twitter.  The time you wait for your friends to comment on and “Like” some photo you uploaded a half hour ago.  Constantly rechecking your email inbox and frequently visiting news websites to stay current.

I have been wasting a lot of time, and now it is time to get back to work.

Here’s a few things I did to remove distractions in my life.

  1. I unfollowed over a hundred people on Twitter who don’t inspire me to work harder or smarter.  (All the celebrities, reporters, VC’s were unfollowed).
  2. I installed a chrome extension to limit me to 10 cumulative minutes a day on my most visited news websites, Hacker News, Facebook, and Twitter.
  3. I stopped paying for Cable.  There’s no more tv on in the background at my house.

Remove distractions and you magically find that you have more time to do great work.
