I want to write more in 2020. One month into the year, I am still writing every day.
As you probably know, I am Creating 12 products this year. Writing helps me gather my thoughts. It helps me organize what I did yesterday and what I plan on doing tomorrow.
Coming into this year, I knew I had to write more. In fact, one of my product ideas was a web application that gives you a daily prompt to help you write more. Before building this, I wanted to test some online writing platforms. I wanted to find the gaps in the market. One of the platforms I tried was 750words.com
And I love 750words!
It’s a very simple interface. Once logged in, you go to 750words.com and it knows who you are and sets up your writing screen for the day. All it says in the title is “Write your words.” The goal is to write 750 words each day.
There’s a very simple motivation of giving you an “X” each day you successfully write 750 words. It is addicting. I sometimes plan my evenings around when I will be able to write my words for the day.
This has forced me into a daily writing habit. I even set up a calendar invite to make sure I don’t forget to write. I didn’t finish 750 words about 2 weeks ago and I’m still a little upset about it.
I heard many podcasts about setting goals early in the year. Most people set an extreme goal like “I want to write 750 words everyday in 2020.” You should start smaller. Just write a little bit tomorrow. Open up 750words.com and write. Even if you only get 50 or 100 words, you’re starting to exercise the habit a little bit. Continue exercising the writing muscle. Before you know it, you will be writing more everyday.
