Most of the products I’ve created in my lifetime have been software related products. Software products are inherently iterative. You find bugs. You fix bugs. Customers request features. You build those features. Strategy dictates different features for different markets. You build those different features.
I never thought physical products would also be iterative.
But they are.
When I started working on the first set for Inspiremarks, I had a printing error. That was iteration 1.
The next shipment was just fine. I was able to use that shipment to sell the set into at least one store.
I’m currently working on an insert that improves our packaging for this product. This insert includes a UPC code and thumbnail images of each full sized bookmark.
Another planned iteration is moving the bookmarks up slightly so the quotation mark sticks out in a more interesting way when it’s placed in books.
New sets for different audiences have already been requested.
I never imagined physical products would be just as iterative as software, but they are.
